Log expenses with the iPhone Action button

Updated 2026-10-16 · 2 min read

Short answer
Set the Action button to run the 空杯记账 (Kongbei Ledger) shortcut:
Settings›Action Button›Swipe to Shortcut›Choose a Shortcut›空杯记账
From then on, when you're on the payment-success screen, press and hold the Action button: it takes a screenshot, reads the amount, lets you pick a category, and logs it in 3 seconds. The iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, and every iPhone 16 and later have the Action button.

Before you start

Install the 空杯记账 shortcut first. If you haven't yet, see Log expenses automatically with iPhone Shortcuts; it takes three steps.

Setup

  1. Open Settings and tap Action Button.
  2. Swipe left or right until you reach Shortcut.
  3. Tap Choose a Shortcut and pick 空杯记账.
  4. Try it: open a payment-success screen (or any screen with an amount on it), press and hold the Action button until the phone gives a light buzz, then let go and follow along: pick a category, add a note.

What happens when you log

The shortcut takes a screenshot and reads the amount on the screen right on your phone. You pick a category and add a note (optional), the entry goes into your ledger, and a notification says 记好了 ("Logged"). The screenshot doesn't go into your photo library and isn't uploaded; only three things are sent: the amount, the category and the note.

FAQ

Nothing happens when I press it?

The Action button only runs it when you press and hold; a quick press just shows what it's set to at the top of the screen.

It can't find the amount?

The amount needs a decimal point (like 32.00) to be recognized, which payment-success screens usually have. If it finds no amount on the screen, it asks you to type one; if it finds several, it lets you pick.

What about iPhones without an Action button?

Use Back Tap: tap the back of the phone twice to run it. See Log expenses with Back Tap.
